Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Laboratory Technician (REF_0123_LT_NGS) Location: Lievegem, East Flanders, Belgium

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a focused NGS laboratory technician to conduct routine protocols for analytical methods involving metagenomics, whole genome sequencing and library preparation starting from  samples.

You will be focused on handling sensitive equipment and following established molecular biology procedures and protocols, ensure accuracy of data and clean room environment to comply with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is well organized in order to ensure timely execution of the activities and detail oriented to achieve high level of accuracy.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform routine molecular techniques, procedures and analysis according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures;

• Works independently and manage multiple testing protocols routinely;

• Perform maintenance, function and operational checks on analytical equipment necessary to guarantee proper performances;

• Employ manual and automatic equipment to conduct analysis;

• Comply with regulations, and company procedures and policies;

• Work effectively with a cross-functional team.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in  laboratory technician specialized in microbiology, molecular biology or similar discipline;

• Proven molecular lab experience;

• Strong background in molecular biology techniques (i.e. Nucleic acid extraction, PCR and qPCR-based techniques, NGS library preparation, sequencer operation on Illumina® platforms and Oxford Nanopore platforms);

• Ability to perform to high level of accuracy;

• Excellent skills in using Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint;

• Advanced English level (written and spoken);

• Time management skills in order to work efficiency;

• Good team working skills.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Familiarity with liquid handling robotics (i.e. PerkinElmer, Hamilton and Eppendorf ) and software;

• Ability to use software supplied with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) instruments;

• Previous experience in clinical laboratory or related work environment;

Voor de opleiding Farmaceutische en biologische laboratorium technologie:

• Validatie van protocol:
  1. Vb: Validatie van onze protocollen (QiaSeq, NextEra en AmpliSeq). Hoe kan het protocol gevalideerd worden en uitvoeren van de validatie.
• Validatie van toestel
  1. Vb: Validatie van een nieuwe toestel. Het Next Era protocol wordt nu uitgevoerd op de MiSeq. In de toekomst zal dit uitgevoerd worden op de HiSeq. Valideren of dezelfde resultaten worden bekomen op beide toestellen.
• Vergelijken van 2 of meerdere verschillende methodes
  1. Vb: Een vergelijking maken van QiaSeq met Next era. Valideren of dezelfde resultaten worden bekomen. Is het resultaat beter of slechter of evenwaardig.
• Optimalisatie van een methode
  1. Vb: Onze huidige en toekomstige protocollen optimaliseren. Verschillende parameters aanpassen en vergelijken welke het beste resultaat geeft.

Voor de opleiding Biotechnologie:

• Dienen de stages altijd onderzoeksvraag gebonden te zijn. 
  1. Vb: We willen een aantal SNP kunnen detecteren. Uitzoeken welke methode hiervoor kan gebruikt worden. Verschillende methodes gaan toepassen. 
  2. Vb: Bewaar condities van de stalen onderzoeken. Welke sample collectie methode behouden de beste bacteriële samenstelling voor een microbioom analyse te doen?
  3. Vb: Testen van verschillende extractie methodes om een optimale representatie van de microbiële samenstelling van een persoon weer te geven?
  4. Vb: Opzet van de analyse van urine en zweet analyse met LC-MS.
  5. Vb: Opzetten van een whole genome analysis met HiSeq of Oxford Nanopore.

Voor de opleiding bio informatica: 

• Ontwikkeling van tools of schrijven van scripts
  1. Ontwikkelen van een tool voor de visualisatie van onze data.
  2. Validatie van verschillende bio informatica a tools voor data-analyse.
  3. Schrijven van een script voor een geautomatiseerde data-analyse.
  4. Schrijven van een script voor een automatische QC-analyse van de data.
  5. Database maken van onze stalen registratie, resultaten van onze analyse en deze visualiseren via een web interface. 
  6. Tools schrijven voor stock management en order van materiaal met visualisatie en web interface.
